My name is LaTrā Guerra, and I created this blog to help and inspire mothers to step out of their culinary comfort zone with delicious and easy meals that their family will enjoy. As mothers, we are responsible for the household, making sure that our families are well nourished, and I know in this day and age it can be a little hard. Often times we find ourselves to be too busy, or lack inspiration, and we generally go for what’s quick, easy, and fast. So with Momstaurant, I seek to change that, and I want to challenge you to change your normal cooking routine and surprise your family with something new, tasty, and creative.
I myself know that sometimes it can just be hard to find the time, energy, or desire to want to cook. I am a wife to a very busy and hardworking husband, and a mother to a set of toddler boy and girl twins, who consume a lot of my time... But with proper scheduling with my husband to watch our twins, some key time-management, and of course toys and cartoons to keep the twins busy, I still manage to cook for my family every day. Here at Momstaurant I want to not only inspire you with delicious meals, but I want to also help you in managing your time with grocery shopping and cooking. The better time-management we have over our lives, the easier it is to complete our task and stay inspired and full of energy.
So I look forward to not only sharing my recipes with you, but also showing you how to create beautiful plating, help you to set up grocery budgets, give you time-management tips for cooking and also for shopping, and also how to save time cooking for the week if you're a supermom!
Cooking was never a passion of mine... it was always eating to be quite honest. I grew up with two very strong cooks in my life, my mother and my grandmother. As a child I used to watch them both tastes their meals at restaurants, then recreate them at home. In my opinion, no one could cook better than that two and every day my mother would try to show me how to cook, but I was just interested in eating. I didn't start liking how to cooking until the day when I had no choice... I moved out into my 1st apartment that was in the city and 40 minutes away from my mother. At that time I realized, "oh... guess I better start cooking for myself", because there was no way I was going to drive down to my mother’s every night for dinner... nooo I was young, had my own place in the heart of Atlanta, and I was ready to live it up and be a grownup. So through trial and a few errors, I taught myself how to cook... aaaannddd, I called my mother and grandmother on more than one occasion for a little advice.
As I got older, cooking every day, or once for the whole week (and yes that's that trick I have for you supermoms) I became better and better. My meals went from basic and simple, to "hey this taste pretty dag'on good"... but still simple. It wasn't until I got married and my husband and I decided to go vegan that my flavor profile busted through the roof! My husband and I were vegan for a strong 9 months before we started incorporating meat back into our diet twice a week, and during that time I learned a lot about seasonings, and how you don't always have to eat meat every day! I became more creative with what and how I cooked, and because it was a challenge for me, I actually started to LOVE cooking! Now I am a self-taught cook and my favorite thing to do... can you believe it… is to cook!
So with Momstaurant I want to inspire you all to take a leap from the norm, and to surprise those around you. Trust me; there is no greater feeling than cooking a meal for your family and they tell you that your food taste like a meal from a restaurant... Hey, why go to a restaurant, when you have Momstaurant?
